Setting new pathways for the innovation in spinal surgery for the benefits of patients and healthcare systems in the EU

Department of Neurosurgery, Kepler University Hospital, Linz

The Department of Neurosurgery at the Kepler University Hospital is situated in the Neuromed Campus in Linz, Austria. We provide medical coverage to a population of around 1.5 million in Upper Austria. Neurosurgical fields of expertise include vascular, oncology, skull base, trauma, pediatric, peripheral nerves, functional as well as complex spine. Under the lead of Prof. Andreas Gruber, Head of the Department of Neurosurgery, 25 neurosurgeons perform around 3.500 surgeries per year in 5 operating theaters. One OR each is equipped with an intraoperative CT, and an intraoperative MRI scanner, respectively. Three wards for a total of 75 patients, an intensive care unit with 18 positions and a neurorehabilitation-ward for 15 patients guarantee for a comprehensive treatment of neurosurgical patients.

Research is conducted under the patronage of the Johannes Kepler University (JKU), and focusses mainly on vascular, oncology and spine with a broad spectrum from basic science to clinical studies.
